SGM Cibubur Holds “Suicide Prevention” Seminar, Encouraging OpenConversations and Support for Students
Cibubur, October 1, 2026 – Sekolah Global Mandiri (SGM) Cibubur, through its Senior High Cibubur and PAB SH Cibubur, held a seminar entitled “Suicide Prevention: Changing the Narrative” with the theme “From Silence and Stigma to Conversation and Support” on Thursday (October 1, 2026).

The seminar was held from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. WIB at Building 1, 2nd Floor, Sekolah Global Mandiri Cibubur. The event addressed mental health, particularly the importance of creating open conversations and support systems as part of suicide prevention efforts among adolescents and young adults.
The seminar featured four speakers from different professional and academic backgrounds, including suicide prevention, nursing and health sciences, mental health, and psychiatry. Their diverse perspectives provided participants with a broader understanding of mental health and suicide prevention.

Mental Health Is an Integral Part of Student Development
According to the background of the seminar, mental health is an inseparable part of students’ overall well-being and development.
Adolescence and young adulthood are periods marked by significant developmental changes, academic demands, social and family relationships, identity formation, and transitions toward higher education.

These various factors can interact with an individual’s psychological vulnerabilities. Under certain circumstances, the distress experienced may develop into serious mental health concerns, including suicidal thoughts or behaviors.
For this reason, addressing mental health requires more than simply providing information. It also involves creating an environment where students feel able to talk openly, be heard, receive support, and access appropriate professional help.
From Silence and Stigma to Conversation
The theme “From Silence and Stigma to Conversation and Support” was at the heart of the seminar.
The shift in narrative emphasizes the importance of communication in creating a more caring and supportive environment for mental health. Open and supportive conversations can provide an initial space for individuals to express what they are experiencing.
In an educational setting, such efforts require the involvement of various stakeholders, including students, teachers, parents, mental health professionals, and the wider school community.

Through this seminar, SGM Cibubur highlighted the importance of mental health awareness as part of education and the development of a school environment that supports students’ well-being.

Strengthening the Mental Health and Wellbeing Program
The seminar also formed part of the ongoing Mental Health and Wellbeing Program at Sekolah Global Mandiri.
The program provides opportunities for the school community to deepen its understanding of mental health and continue developing a more comprehensive approach to student well-being.
Through educational activities such as seminars, the school seeks not only to increase awareness of mental health but also to encourage a school culture that is more open to conversations about psychological well-being and the need for support.

The “Suicide Prevention: Changing the Narrative” seminar carried a simple but important message: mental health issues need to be discussed responsibly, without stigma, and with appropriate support. From silence and stigma to conversation and support. (FOS)
