Celebrating Independence Day at Sekolah Global Mandiri Palembang: Independence Competitions for Pre-Primary & Primary Level 2026
In celebration of the 81st Anniversary of Indonesia’s Independence, Sekolah Global Mandiri (SGM) Palembang held a two-day event called the “Independence Competitions,” taking place on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 for the Pre-Primary level and Thursday, August 20, 2026 for the Primary Level. The event brought a lively spirit of nationalism, packaged in a creative and enjoyable way for all students.
Day One: Pre-Primary Fun and Games (August 19, 2026)
The first day of activities was dedicated to the Pre-Primary level, including Nursery, KG A, and KG B classes. The event began at 7:50 AM with a toilet training session led by teachers, followed by students preparing to head to the competition area.
The event was officially opened by the MC at 8:15 AM, starting with a prayer, a welcome speech from Ms. Ely, and a briefing on the competition rules. After all students and teachers made their way to their designated stations (PICs), the competitions kicked off from 8:40 to 10:00 AM, featuring a range of games tailored to each age group:
- Nursery Bus — Banana peeling race and ball throwing.
- KG A — Ball sorting game and walking across cardboard boards.
- KG B — Color sorting on cups, rubber band picking, blindfolded dressing, and pencil-into-bottle challenge.
After an exciting round of games, students enjoyed meal time together in their classrooms from 10:00 to 10:30 AM. The day’s festivities concluded with special performances from each class between 10:30 and 11:30 AM — Nursery Bus, KG A Train, KG B Submarine, and KG B Rocket — enthusiastically watched by all students and teachers. The first day wrapped up with a prize-giving ceremony and closing remarks.
Day Two: Primary Level Spirit and Competition (August 20, 2026)
The following day, it was the Primary Level’s turn (Year 1 through Year 4) to showcase their national pride. Following a similar format, the day began at 7:50 AM with toilet training, followed by students heading to the competition area at 8:00 AM.
The opening ceremony, led by the MC, ran from 8:15 to 8:30 AM, including a welcome speech from Ms. Ely, a prayer, and a competition briefing. After a preparation session from 8:30 to 8:40 AM, students from all year levels took part in three exciting competitions from 8:40 to 10:00 AM:
- Cup-blowing race
- Blindfolded dressing competition (using batik uniforms)
- Marble-and-spoon relay race
Uniquely, mealtime on the second day was held in the form of a potluck, where students shared food with their classmates from 10:00 to 10:30 AM — fostering togetherness while teaching the value of sharing.
The highlight of the day took place from 10:30 to 11:30 AM with student performances from Year 1, Year 2, and a combined Year 3 and Year 4 showcase. The event closed with the announcement of competition winners in the school hall, followed by an official closing by the MC.
A Celebration of Unity and National Values
Through this Independence Competitions series, Sekolah Global Mandiri Palembang aimed not only to bring joy through a variety of traditional and modern games, but also to instill important values such as teamwork, sportsmanship, discipline, and love for the nation from an early age. This two-day celebration stands as a genuine example of how Indonesia’s Independence Day can be commemorated in a way that is educational, fun, and deeply meaningful for the entire SGM Palembang community.
Happy 81st Independence Day, Indonesia! Merdeka!
